Dear Corry - mom of a PWN (for Julie Flygare's Dear Diagnosis Blogathon)

You are a mom of two grown children, a son in college and a daughter recently diagnosed with Narcolepsy with Cataplexy.  Your job as a mom doesn't end when your nest is empty, you still worry and wonder and pray for their safety and well being but when you find out your grown daughter has this disability you realize your role as a mom is still very important.  You have connected with Lindsey via cellphone almost daily since she left home and went off to college to make sure she got up in the morning for class or for work...you listened when she talked about the struggles with sleep and being tired all the time, suffering with the frustration of not having energy to do what she'd like, feeling nauseous in the mornings because of her delayed sleep phase condition, hearing the sadness when she lost a job because she didn't get up and to work on time, and you helped her get to the point of a diagnosis by making sure she saw the right doctors and got the sleep test and answers needed.

Of course you do all that because you are "the mom" and you would do anything to help your children succeed in life, to have the best quality of life possible and if that means sacrificing for them you will do it without giving it a second thought.  Having this diagnosis means you have answers and a reason for all the struggles.  It means you now can begin to understand a lot of the aspects of this diagnosis and the side effects, the characteristics that are part of the N/C package and not just a personality thing...and with understanding comes acceptance and change, possible solutions and answers but most of all awareness and continued unconditional love!  Now that you know ....you can move forward together.

You now realize in retrospect that this problem likely started in junior high and that she was always difficult to wake up but you never thought it was a bigger problem than her being a sleepy teenager who's was also just a nightowl like you! You will have thoughts about what caused your child to develop this condition, is it something you did or could have prevented, was it a vaccine you made your daughter get, foods you ate or some other environmental cause, genes you passed down, either way guilt won't help or make the N go away but perhaps someday scientists will find some answers that may help prevent others from going through this. You will ask God why but understand that He knows but we may not ever understand why some people get sick and some don't.

You will continue to support Lindsey any way you can because that's what you do, to the best of your ability, you'll be there when she needs advice or a ride to the sleep clinic, you will raise awareness for this cause because it is not well known and because PWN's look "normal" people don't recognize it as a disability or the serious condition that it is. You will help her advocate so that she succeeds in all she does because you know she is strong and won't let this keep her down.  She will find a career that she loves and excels at and can use her vast talents to their fullest and you will continue to pray to that end.  Narcolepsy is not who she is it is just what she has!

Its about time

I've been on hiatus far too long in regards to my papercrafting endeavors and am anxious to get back at it....I've done a little cardmaking and a few layouts over the past year but not much.......EXCEPT for my smashbooking which is a fun journalling/diary/scrapbooking thing that is fairly popular at the moment.  It has been great because its simple and quick and you can use up scraps of this n that... I add pictures of course and ticket stubs/receipts all those fun things you collect and its been fun doing this with Lindsey.

So I signed up to sell CTMH again and am thinking with online ordering this might be more worthwhile....time will tell....and I plan to use the products in my monthly card classes.

Friends with Flair

I love my Unity/Ippity stamps........i spent several hours last week reorganizing and sorting them, putting like images and themes together in the stampendous thin containers and i LOVE how easy it is to find a stamp.......and to discover some that i've had for ages and never used once so its like getting a whole bunch of new Unity rubber!!  and so here are a few cards  I did this week, the last one was for the unity monthly challenge combining the color combo and sketch, the second last card for the all things unity button challenge.  I hope in your neck of the woods the weather is better than mine (its been snowing for 2 days and we have a couple inches of fresh white stuff......i'm not impressed) but its a good excuse to stay warm inside and play with stamps and paper.

Still Alive!

How very very sad...........not one post since october........its not like i haven't been creative at all but for some reason it seems i've neglected my blog.....and I'm going to blame it on my Ipod and new Iphone!!  its just so very handy to check my email and fb and things with the fabulous little portable devices that i really don't sit at the computer much, which means less message board time and apparently NO  blog time.  but i do have a few things to share.....I've done a fair bit of quilting as well this winter (and am in love with my new Pfaff sewing machine) so perhaps this blog will contain more than paper crafts from now on.   I love both crafts equally so why not!!

Oh me oh My!!!!

Has it really been over 4 months since I've updated my blog and shared some creations with you?  sheesh!  I guess it was a crazy summer with holidays and my daughters august graduation (yep, august grad, don't ask why ugh!)  and then a fabulous trip to Norway to see my brother, and a weekend at a quilt/scrap convention......time just flies when you're having fun and trying to keep head above water.  So with fall stuff starting and routines set in place I know I'll have more scrappy time (have to if I'm going to start my monthly card classes in Nov) and hopefully post more often.  Here are a few things I did a while back....

I have been having some creative fun playing and learning to color with copics so there will def. be more to come with those~!!!

my BUGZ has arrived...

at long last, after deciding it was time and the price was reasonable, i decided to buy a Cricut Expression machine...........well after weeks of dealing with a bad ebay seller and finally getting my money back and waiting for my new purchase to arrive it came...... and it was well worth the wait.  I am having so much fun trying it out and creating with "bugz" and i look forward to increased creativity once i get the technical things figured with software etc.  I think the possibilities are endless.  My card class students will love the cuts they get to use tomorrow I' m sure.

here are just a few of the things thus far....
